User Services Documentation - Public - PC Purchase Program (Stockroom Computer Inventory)

The Computational Sciences and Technology (CST) Division has joined with the Stockroom to form the JLab PC Purchase Program. This program makes the purchasing of laptops, monitors, and docking stations easier and faster! The equipment is suitable for our environment and is electronic data processing (EDP) pre-approved.

Submitting an Order

In order to purchase computing equipment from the Stockroom, you must submit a Service Now incident (or email helpdesk@jlab.org) including the following:

Desired equipment (see below for available items)
Appropriate Proj/Org as a charge code
Any special requirements (software or accessories)
- NOTE: Special accessories (keyboard, mouse, chargers, etc.) will need to be ordered separately by admin support staff for your group/division
Urgency of request:
- Current machine has failed
- Replacing an aging system

Selecting a standard vs developer system: Both standard and developer systems are from Dell's Precision line of products, they are both of similar build quality and no quality of life features are reserved for the developer systems. The standard laptop and workstation desktop have been configured with hardware that is sufficient for most applications used at JLab, including smaller 2D drawings. Developer laptops and high end workstations have been configured with more intensive applications in mind; these systems are for CAD/CAE, simulations, and other developer workflows.

NOTE: CST Help Desk staff only make purchases from the lab's Stockroom Computer Inventory. If you have other system requirements, you'll need to work with the admin support staff for your group/division. They will need to submit a separate PR; attaching the items listed in the red box on PR (EDP, EPEAT, and the Dell e-quote or shopping cart). The EDP document should provide specific details as to why you need something outside of the lab's computer inventory.
