When a tape is deprecated and information can no longer be read from it, the data from that tape can be pulled from its duplicates.

Note: When running the commands for this, you must have root access.

Identifying the Duplicate Tapes

Log into one of the datamovers as root
Run the command jadmin replace-raw-tape <VOLSER of damaged tape> (the datamover does not need to be shut down for this)
When asked about scheduling the replacement for the raw tape, type N. The replacements can get scheduled once the duplicates have been inserted in the library.

The list of VOLSERs will tell you which duplicate tapes to get from the tape vault (12/F116) to insert into the tape library.

Inserting the Tapes

Once the duplicate tapes have been found, they can be added to the tape library so that the rewrite process can begin. These tapes can be placed in one of the removable trays of the tape library. Getting the Duplicates Online

In order for the rewrite jobs to take place, these tapes have to be marked as online in both jasmine and the tape library GUI.

On the left hand side select Drives > Drives
Using the search filter, search for the VOLSER(s) of the duplicates inserted into the library
Select "Reassign"
Assign to LTO1

Run jadmin reimport-tapes ts4500 <VOLSERs of duplicate tapes>

Once the tapes have been marked online in both places, re-run the replace-raw-tape command to schedule the replacement jobs.

Verifying Jobs and Ejecting the Tape

The status of the replacement jobs can be checked on scicomp.jlab.org. After the replacement jobs have run, run the replace-raw-tape command again. If all the files have relocated, running the command will return an error with a message.
